I’m Mahtab Shahsavan, a Senior Data Engineer with 5+ years of experience building scalable data pipelines and financial data systems. I currently work at Siemens Healthineers in Erlangen, Germany, designing end-to-end data architectures and building AI-powered solutions — from financial pipelines in Databricks and Snowflake to RAG systems using Hugging Face and vector databases.

I’m also pursuing an M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. Before Germany, I led a data engineering team at an investment bank in Tehran for nearly four years, where I owned everything from architecture decisions to stakeholder alignment — reducing computation time by 50%, shipping 30+ production APIs, and achieving 90% data accuracy across financial reporting pipelines.

Why This Blog?

Data engineering is mostly invisible work. Nobody sees the pipelines, the schema decisions, or the late-night incident that almost broke the dashboard. I created DataSubway to change that — to make the underground machinery of data visible, approachable, and worth talking about. The subway metaphor is intentional: every great city runs on infrastructure nobody thinks about until it stops working. I build that infrastructure for data, and this is where I write about it.

I’m always happy to talk data engineering, AI, or anything blog-related.
